About us

THE EPOL STORY

Back in 1916, Sammy Marks registered the Vereeniging Milling Company (VMC), teaming up with Adolf Sacks in 1917 to build a maize mill in Vereeniging. This was a first in South Africa and allowed for the bulk store of maize.

When Marks passed away, Monty Ross took over the reins partnering with Premier Milling in 1934 to purchase 90% of VMC. In 1940, the company identified the need for a scientifically-formulated animal feed and launched the Epol brand which would soon become associated with the perfect balance.

As a key supplier to Rainbow Chicken, the business acquired a 50% share of Epol in 1992 and four years later in 1996 Epol became a wholly owned subsidiary of Rainbow Farms.

Today, supported by over a century of experience and expertise, Epol with its six mills, is one of the leading animal-feed manufacturers in South Africa and one of the only feed operations that operates nationally across a broad range of species.

We understand that farms are businesses and for these to be sustainable, they must operate profitably. That’s why we’re all about offering quality, optimised feed and sound technical advice to suit the specific need of each farmer, allowing them to maximise on-farm profits.

OPTIMISATION

Our Technical Advisors are qualified animal nutritionists who ensure animals perform to their genetic production potential delivering optimum output, performance and health. Stringent controls are maintained by on-site laboratories which test every load of incoming raw material and outgoing feed using . state-of-the-art Near InfraRed testing.

RESULTS

As the leading producer of animal feeds, Epol prides itself on providing customers not only with top quality feeds but also with superior service. This includes an on-farm technical service as well as nutritional and technical support from in-house technical managers based at each of Epol’s six mills across the country.
