Best Practices for Broiler Farming Using Optigro Feed

1. Prepare the Broiler House

o Clean, disinfect, and pre-heat the broiler house before chick placement.
o Place feed and water 24 hours before arrival so they reach room temperature.
o Ensure all equipment is operational and plan an appropriate vaccination programme.

2. Feeding Strategy

o Begin with Optigro Broiler Pre-Starter to promote early vitality and organ development.
o Transition to Optigro Broiler Starter (crumble) to support strong early growth.
o Introduce Optigro Broiler Grower pellets for efficient muscle development and weight gain.
o Continue with Optigro Broiler Finisher to maximise final growth and feed efficiency.
o Use Optigro Broiler Post Finisher to optimise carcass yield and prepare birds for market.

3. Environmental Management

o Ensure heaters or brooders are functioning correctly and positioned at the correct height.
o Avoid placing feeders or drinkers directly beneath heat sources, as excessive heat can reduce feed and water intake.
o Conduct the first chick check 4–6 hours after placement to confirm chicks are active, eating, and drinking.
o Adjust temperature or ventilation if chick behaviour indicates discomfort.

4. Feeder & Drinker Setup

o Provide adequate feeders and drinkers across the broiler house:
– 1 bell drinker per ±100 birds
– 1 nipple drinker per 12 birds
– 1 pan feeder per 45 birds
– 40 cm tube feeder for up to 70 birds

5. Temperature Control

  • Record daily minimum and maximum temperature in the broiler house.
  • At placement aim for a floor temperature floor temperature of ~30 °C.
  • Carefully regulate house temperature during the first 14 days for optimal growth and feed conversion. Monitor chick activity and adjust temperature accordingly.

6. Feed Availability & Nutrition

o Ensure birds have continuous access to feed — broilers should never run out of feed.
o Download the Optigro Broiler brochure for recommended intake guidelines from Pre-Starter through Post Finisher.
o Select the correct Optigro feed phase to match your production goals and bird age.
