Best Practices for Broiler Farming Using EPOL Classic Feed

1. Prepare the Broiler House

o Clean, disinfect, and prepare the broiler house thoroughly before chick placement.
o Place feed and water 24 hours before arrival so they reach room temperature.
o Implement a planned vaccination programme to support flock health.

2. Feeding Strategy

o Start chicks on EPOL Classic Broiler Starter (crumble) to support early development and growth.
o Transition to EPOL Classic Broiler Grower pellets to drive rapid muscle development.
o Introduce EPOL Classic Broiler Finisher to promote efficient weight gain and feed conversion.
o Complete the cycle with EPOL Classic Broiler Post Finisher to enhance carcass quality and final body mass.

3. Environmental Management

o Ensure heaters or brooders are functioning correctly and positioned at the appropriate height.
o Avoid placing feeders or drinkers directly beneath heat sources, as excessive heat can reduce appetite and water intake.
o Conduct the first chick check 4–6 hours after placement. Healthy chicks should be active, eating, and drinking.
o Adjust ventilation, temperature, or lighting if chick behaviour indicates discomfort.

4. Feeder & Drinker Setup

o Provide sufficient access to feed and water to reduce competition:
– 1 bell drinker per ±100 birds
– 1 nipple drinker per 12 birds
– 1 pan feeder per 45 birds
– 1 tube feeder (40 cm) per up to 70 birds

5. Temperature Control

  • Record daily minimum and maximum temperature in the broiler house.
  • At placement aim for a floor temperature floor temperature of ~30 °C.
  • Carefully regulate house temperature during the first 14 days for optimal growth and feed conversion. Monitor chick activity and adjust temperature accordingly.

6. Feed Availability & Nutrition

o Ensure birds have continuous access to feed — birds should never be without feed.
o Refer to EPOL’s downloadable feeding guidelines for recommended intake levels at each production stage.
o Select the appropriate EPOL Classic feed phase to match bird age and production goals.
