Preparing for Duck Placement

Success in duck farming begins before your day-old ducklings arrive. Ensure the duck house is cleaned, disinfected, and fully prepared, with a clear vaccination programme in place. Place feed and water 24 hours before placement so they reach room temperature for optimal intake.

Duck House Management for Healthy Flocks

Proper environmental control is essential for successful duck rearing:

• Check heaters or brooders to ensure they are working and positioned at the correct height.
• Avoid placing feed and water directly under heat sources to prevent reduced intake.

The first health check should be done 4–6 hours after placement. Healthy ducklings should be active, eating, drinking, and moving freely. If they are inactive, investigate environmental conditions such as floor temperature, ventilation, or lighting.

Feeding & Watering Equipment

Ensure there are sufficient feeders and drinkers for your ducklings:

• 1 bell drinker per 100 birds
• 1 nipple drinker per 12 birds
• 1 pan feeder per 45 birds
• A 40 cm tube feeder for 70 birds

Temperature & Environmental Control

Measure and record minimum and maximum temperatures daily. At placement, the floor temperature should be around 32 ºC. Maintain stable conditions, especially during the first 14 days, to support healthy growth and strong immune development.
